5. APPLICATIONS OF MOTIVATION

Lev Vygosky was an excellent example of an educator that displayed the applications of motivation to his students by the mediated learning experience in the classroom by asking students to join him in performing new tasks. He did this to encourage learning by motivating them to try to attach meanings to the world around them.

MOTIVATION CAN BE USED BY STUDENTS IN TWO WAYS

There are two different types of motivation for student learners: 

• Extrinsic motivation-Lies outside of the individual and the tasks being performed(Ormrod,2009).
• Intrinsic motivation-Lies inside of individual and the tasks being performed (Ormrod,2009).

• Intrinsic motivation refers to motivation that comes from inside an individual rather than from any external or outside rewards, such as money or grades ( Carol Bainbridge About.com Guide)
